Qigong: The Eight Pieces of Brocade



The Eight Pieces of Brocade (Ba Duan Jin) are simple qigong exercises designed to harmonize the internal organs, align the energy meridians of the body and release toxins. These exercises date back to an eighth-century Taoist text and are traditionally attributed to one of the Eight Immortals of Chinese folklore, Chong Li-Quan. The entire eight element routine is composed of gentle stretching and strengthening elements which are designed to activate the Qi (vital energy) of the body, helping to stimulate the immune system, speed recovery from illness, increase energy and improve overall health. With both a sitting and standing set, these easy-to-learn, graceful movements can be done by anyone regardless of age or physical condition. A $5 materials fee is payable to the presenter at the first meeting. Wear comfortable clothing.

Presenter: Diana Shakarian – Holds a Ph.D. in Kinesiology and has taught at the university level for over 15 years. She has been a student of Eastern philosophy and energy arts since 1974. She is a certified Reiki practitioner, and practices T’ai Chi, Qigong and meditation daily.
